The excursion starts from Kamari it takes about 10 min. by the bus and then 10-20 min. by foot to arrive at the site. Ancient Thira is situated in a unique location on the top of Messa Vouno mountain at a height of 356 m. This strategic point was chosen by the Dorian settlers to built their capital town in 8th century BC. The excavations uncover the ruins of ancient buildings, sanctuaries and temples, inscriptions and carved stones of archaic period and also the ancient theatre situated in an excellent location with panoramic view to Aegean Sea. The bus will be waiting for you to take you back to Kamari.
